For those who believe that Health Care Reform is just another ploy for the government to control our lives…?

….How do you feel about the FDA? Do you think the FDA is another example of gov’t inferring with our lives? Or should we let food and drugs go unregulated? I don’t know about you, but I kind of like knowing that food and drugs are held to a certain standard and that they have to divulge what is in their products. How about the SEC? How about FDIC? How about the EPA?
My point is that I don’t want gov’t controlling and interfering in my life any more than you do and I fully understand the bureaucracy, corruption and ineptitude that gov’t many times demonstrate. However, with that being said, I much rather have gov’t looking out for me than leaving it up to multi-billion dollar, profit driven companies to self-regulate themselves. I don’t think they necessarily have my best interest at heart, you know what I mean?
I consider Health Care reform as a necessary step to regulate insurance companies from raising premiums- just because they can, denying claims- just because they can, denying coverage- just because they can. I think gov’t regulating health care is just as essential as gov’t regulating Wall St., the Food and Drug industry, credit card co., etc. Why would health care be different? Is it different? I would like to hear your thoughts, please respond.

I could not agree with you more. Thank goodness I am not one of these paranoid, self centered people who can not wrap their tiny little brains around something as good and decent as health care reform.

One argument that keeps getting touted is "I don’t want anyone between my doctor and the services I need". Guess what? There already is someone. It is the insurance company (If you are lucky enough to have health insurance). We have BC BS and I can not tell you how many times they have denied claims for services and/or treatment for our family. Yet we pay outrageous premiums each month, not counting co pays and deductibles.

Every other developed country has some form of national health care, except the USA. Who is wrong? The rest of the developed world? Or the USA?

The FDA doesn’t impose a tax on me if I don’t eat beef.

the fda kills more people by keeping life saving drugs off the market than it does by allowing people to use unsafe drugs. all of those organizations should be eliminated. you act as though the government is looking out in your best interests, just like private companies, they arent. they are looking out for themselves, only the government can legally use force and coercion and private companies cant.

congrats- you have been successfully brainwashed

If health care is ANYTHING like the FDA we’re as good as dead inside 20 years.

The FDA is a complete and utter failure.

The problem with federal regulation is that big companies have such great influence that they are calling the shots. The government is far from impartial, and lobbyists have more to say than about what Congress does than constituents. It was well after the fact that the public became aware they were eating genetically engineered food.
As for the "health care reform bill" it shouldn’t cost a trillion dollars just to have the government to regulate insurance companies from raising premiums. Nor should it call for making it mandatory to buy insurance. There’s a lot more going on here than the government protecting people from insurance companies. The bill favors multi-billion dollar, profit driven companies more than the public.

It’s not just regulation. Do you know that the current bill will require all citizens to either purchase private insurance, enroll in government health care, or pay a yearly fine if they do not take either of the former choices? Sure, there are people out there that will benefit from having government healthcare widened. But it will be at the cost of everyone… whether they are using the service or not. Do you think it’s right to be forced to help take care of others? Or should you be allowed to do it of your own volition if you so choose?

1. Regulating prices is unAmerican. A company has every right to charge what they want. If you don’t like it, don’t pay it. Find another company.

2. If they do not cover a preexisting condition, don’t pay them. Don’t do business with them. Only make sure that they do what they promised in the contract. Don’t try and change the contract after it’s been signed.

3. If the FDA is so great, why do I always see commercials on TV about an FDA approved drug that ‘may cause health problems’? I’m sure you’ve seen them. So the FDA hasn’t been doing a very good job.

4. Do you actually think that politicians care about your wellbeing? Not at all. They are out for profit. No different than a company. But they have the power to make laws and force you to buy something. So who’s more dangerous when given power? A company that wants your business and needs to persuade you to give them money? Or a politician who can force you to give them money?

5. A government takeover is not going to make things better. Lets look at some government controlled programs. Welfare is abused. Social Security is going to fail. We have high crime. Our public schools are terrible. Some are even filled with gang members and drug dealers. Not to mention our massive debt.

6. I agree that health care reform is needed. But that does not mean a government take over. Instead, offer tax cuts to hospitals who offer lower prices. Do the same with insurance companies. Tort reform will lower the cost of malpractice insurance, which will allow hospitals to lower their costs- and they will if they will get reduced taxes, since they’re paying the same thing anyway, but lowering the costs will get more people to come to them, eventually making them more money.
