I have to write a a term paper on the U.S. health care system and the current debate about health care reform?
It seems that there is a HUGE argument about socialized vs. private health care. After doing a bit of research, it seems that countries that have a socialized health care plan (UK, France, Canada, Sweden) have a better quality of life, easy access to health care and they aren’t paying more taxes than US. Also, the system here in the U.S. seems to be a profit-driven industry since big corporations own the hospitals, drug companies and other health care related companies - and we all know that the ultimate goal for big corporations is…to make as much money as possible.
So it’s easy to see why this has become a Democrat vs Republican debate; the Dems want an "all for one" system (socialist) and the Repubs want to keep the system private to make as much money as possible (capitalism).
But my main question is what’s the big problem in having a Washington-driven health care system? We have other "socialized" systems run by the government: The Veteran’s Administration, The U.S. Post Office. I realize those are not exactly pictures of perfection, but is it worse than the results we are seeing now: Millions of Americans without health insurance, millions of insured Americans driven to bankruptcy from medical expenses because of denied claims; four times as many lobbyists for the health care industry than members of congress; US ranking 37th on WHO’s ranking of country’s health care. With a properly set up system, based on either France’s or Sweden’s system, I don’t see a real reason not to have a socialized health care system.
Good luck. However, the USA will not get a Washington driven healthcare system if Obama gets his way. Sure, those who opt to have government insurance will have it, but they can always buy into another policy if they want.
FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should
FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet
FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare
FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage
FACT - Obama was elected by the American people to bring in change
FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing the American people
FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and Switzerland

Go to your local health clinic or county hospital. That is what government run health care looks like. No thank you.

one great source is your own family health care experience. get with your family talk amongst yourselves. this can be a part of your initial brainstorming paper and your first draft. from there you can get a lot of your formatting for your second draft which can include any other helpful resource. i think that you will do a great job - have fun.

WHO grades countries on a number of factors and the way they have it set up, the more socialism, the better score. So any capitalist system will rank low simply because the graders are commies.
Europeans DO pay much higher taxes than Americans.
Their health care systems are going bankrupt, wait time is long and nobody is really thrilled with their system.
Here’s the key for your paper. A huge advantage socialist health care systems of Europe and elsewhere have is they do not have to spend any money on research and development of drugs, technology or procedures. They innovate NOTHING, USA bears all those costs. Only we can because only a capitalist system has any motivation to make improvements.
If America goes socialist, we won’t innovate either. So stagnation results, worldwide.
That won’t turn out well.

Not true,a majority of the Hospitals are owned by non profit groups, like Catholics,Methodists,Mormons, and Universities. As far as easy access, sure They’ll schedule you,and in 2-6 months they might even treat you.
I have a better idea, print up every page of HR3200 (1018 pages)and have your class read and debate it against what Obama and Pelosi and Reid are saying about it,and tell us whos lying.

That would be worth any tuition money your paying.
